On Tuesday of last week, a baby Southern White Rhinoceros named Kianga (Sunshine in Swahili) was born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park .

The newborn will grow from her current, adorable and diminutive size to over 4,000 pounds in a little over three years. Kianga is on her feet and jaunting about, as the video shows.

There are an estimated 18,000 Southern White Rhinoceros in the wild. An over 9,000% increase in poaching over the past ten years threatens to wipe the species out. Read more about poaching here and here.
